About Startup 2.0: TIOTI

Marc Colando is a serial entrepreneur and editor of TwiceFunded.com.

Startup 2.0

Marc’s second startup is TIOTI.com (Tape It Off The Internet) which he co-founded in 2005 and joined full-time in 2007. Marc architected the corporate structure, copyright/legal framework, international subsidiary structure, aggregation technologies, financial operations and business model for TIOTI.

The idea of this thoroughly Web 2.0 startup is one part content distribution or sharing, one part content discovery, one part TV Guide and one part TiVo. A more thorough overview can be found here.

Marc led TIOTI through Series A funding by London-based VC’s in 2007, and coordinated rollout of a detailed site analytics engine in parallel with refinements to the site’s user experience. The combination of in-depth user behavior observation and improved usability on the site is propelling growth of TIOTI.com now that the Hollywood writer’s strike is over and new TV shows are airing again every day.

In 2008, Marc remains a shareholder in TIOTI but has resigned day-to-day involvement to allow for a more European focus as a potential differentiator for the business. More info about Marc’s first startup — Interactive Planet, Inc. (IPI) — can be found here.

Today, Marc is working on “the next big thing” and is also available for select consulting opportunities. E-mail marc/at/twicefunded.com to get in touch.

Maybe Yahoo! should have just bought us…

OK. I'm starting to wonder if an ex-staffer or advisor from my Startup 1.0 has landed at Yahoo! First, they announce a product called Searchmonkey. Sounds a little like Greasemonkey, and intentionally so. Searchmonkey is supposed to give site owners more control over how their search listings appear on Yahoo!, ...

Save Ferris – Er, Paulpod

The blurb I had planned for today will have to wait for tomorrow. I just saw this post on TechCrunch.co.uk: OK so there is a little agenda: Helping a guy out who is currently in hospital with a very serious condition and unable to work on his startup. Paul Cleghorn is founder of TIOTI.com, one of the ...

Back on Monday…

At the beginning of April, I set a goal of having a Startup 3.0 prototype ready by the end of the month. I'm close, but the blog updates here have unfortunately paid the price. New content will be coming on Cinco de Mayo -- May 5th for the gringos in the ...

Kicking-off the weekend with something light is becoming a bit a of a tradition here at twicefunded.com. This week's video is something that made my wife laugh out lout (er, excuse me, LOL) the first time she saw it. I've always loved Sonic ads, and when I went looking for this ...

Phacebook?!

Well, it was bound to happen I suppose. I saw the first signs of phishing on Facebook a few days ago. I got a note saying that someone had posted something to my "Fun Wall." I wasn't expecting anything from this particular friend, so I went to have a look. I ...
