15 Years Ago Today…

Today has been a great day for me to reminisce a bit. My first startup, Interactive Planet, Inc. (IPI), officially formed 15 years ago on March 3, 1993. I chose the name as a wee lad working with a very gifted and creative associate. We fancied the notion that multimedia technology would rapidly bring our world closer together in the coming years. Seems passé now, but this idea came in the pre-Web (1.0, 2.0 or 3.0+) days — when Macromedia Director had just evolved from VideoWorks — and less than a year after the release of the first usable version of Windows. IPI eventually became a real CD-ROM experience (remember those?) and Web 1.0 star, building online experiences that reached hundreds of millions of users. Over the next few days, I’ll distill some of the lessons I learned as a 20-something/early 30-something dot-com CEO back in the day…
